Core Competence Index
General Education is based on the philosophy of all-around education. It teaches students to have a sound philosophy of life with humanity literacy, social concern, and global vision. It also aims to cultivate modern citizens with both humanity and technology skills, and teaches students to become independent thinkers with the ability to reflect and put into practice their learnings.
The General Education of NCUT focuses on training students’ core ability in eight areas:

A. Knowledge integration |
Students can acquire eternal values through various kinds of knowledge and cultural contexts while integrating the values with life and learning to appreciate, respect, and cherish the meaning of life. |
B. Creative thinking |
Students can recognize different perspectives and link points of knowledge in every field and between multiple cultures while possessing cross-disciplinary thinking and judgement abilities to present innovative creativity in an existing structure. |
C. Communication and expression |
Students can clarify their own thoughts and demonstrate their own opinions articulately and clearly with spoken and written language to establish good communication with others. |
D. Appreciation of beauty |
Students can recognize, receive, and convey the beauty of various kinds of art while having a keen appreciation. |
E. Logic and reasoning |
Students can use logic analysis and quantitative reasoning to process reflection and arguments according to the existing and objective facts and make further reasonable judgements. |
F. Legal thinking |
Students can recognize interaction and connection among human rights, democracy and the rule of law to process speculation and arguments independently. They also demonstrate humanistic spirit and strengthen the relationship between themselves and social groups. |
G. Broad perspective |
Students can use basic knowledge to develop different perspectives and expand their vision to establish a sound philosophy of life. |
H. Ethics |
Students can recognize their relationship with the environment, and are willing to devote their energy and professional knowledge to society and environment reform with a positive energy. |
The core goal of courses is to cultivate students’ humanity literacy and to lead students to think and judge in an independent, objective, and critical way while training their language ability to be an individual with humanity of spirit and a well-educated individual.
