Development

The Fundamental General Education Center is in charge of the teaching and study of basic courses of the whole university. It consists of curriculum sections for basic courses including Chinese literature, history, law and politics, music and art, and mathematics. The Center is a teaching unit and is parallel to other departments of the college. It is responsible for the planning and implementation of required fundamental general education courses and other related matters regarding the teaching and study of general education courses.

 

The Center is established based on the philosophy of all-around education, regards the importance of cultivating modern literacy through the learning of both humanities and science courses. General education courses of NCUT are divided into Fundamental General Education courses and Liberal Arts General Education courses. Fundamental General Education courses focus on fundamental knowledge that aims to develop synchronization with modern society and humanity, while retaining a balance between traditional culture and modern technology to benefit everyone. The mission is to allow students to clearly understand basic values and the meaning of life. Through lectures of Chinese and foreign classics and the inheritance of past and present experiences, students are able to reach great levels of self-understanding, and to think and judge in an independent, objective and critical way. Courses also focus on strengthening expression and application to cultivate students’ literacy and mold their characters so that they can become a well-rounded individual with knowledge, literacy as well as excellent abilities.

 

With the above philosophy and insistence on continuous development, the Center promotes the teaching and study of Fundamental General Education and Liberal Arts General Education courses that complement and intertwine with each other. It also cooperates with other humanities-related colleges of NCUT to promote the integration of technology with the humanities. The Center also plans to apply technology in courses, teaching materials, and teaching methods as well as process the interoperability of theory and practice, in addition to building inter-university collaboration for teaching and study. From easy to hard, from inside to outside, we work together to create our own features and achieve great levels of knowledge and cognition.
